Momentum for green procurement in Malta

'A total of 113 public tenders worth €15.7 million in all have been published in line with green public procurement (GPP) guidelines issued at the beginning of the year, and a further 15 worth nearly €8 million are pending.

'The figures were announced at a news conference given by Finance Minister Tonio Fenech and Environment Minister Mario de Marco yesterday morning to explain the progress registered since the issuing of a GPP action plan on 2 January.

'The plan sets out green criteria for public procurement in 18 categories of products and services used by the government including paper, IT equipment, furniture, cleaning services and construction. In each case a target figure was set for 2012, 2013 and 2014: while in some areas the aim is to stick to criteria in all tenders, more modest targets were set in others.'
